Transitioning to a Non-Profit

After careful thought and consideration we’ve decided to take the plunge and transition Miss Angie’s Place to a nonprofit organization. There are many steps to this process and it is overwhelming to say the least, but the initial phase is complete – we’ve created a solid mission statement and set of goals that will serve us well into the future.

The next step is recruiting members for the board of directors. Don’t get me wrong, serving on a board can be overwhelming, but it can also be extremely rewarding. Please take a look at the mission statement and goals below. If you feel a calling to help with this mission by serving as a member on the board of directors, feel free to message Miss Angie below.

Mission Statement

Our Mission: Create a safe space to gather and grow for people of all ages through art, nature, spirituality and movement.

Goals

  1. Foster a sense of appreciation and stewardship for mother earth.
  2. Offer affordable programming for all.
  3. Serve as a welcome presence in our community through diverse and inclusive programming and events.
  4. Be financially sustainable.
  5. Bridge the generational gap by establishing a mentorship program involving adults and youth, based on areas of concern/need for guidance.
  6. Promote mental, physical and emotional wellness for participants through programming and positive interactions amongst staff, volunteers and participants.
Yes! I’m interested in discussing board membership.

Josh’s Story Tonight – Postponed

Tis the season for cold and flu, and unfortunately Josh is a bit under the weather today, September 22. Therefore, we need to postpone the Survivor Series speaker session scheduled for tonight. However, if you would still like a place to gather tonight for strength and support, please let me know and we can gather as planned, minus the speaker.

Creativity Time Sessions on Fridays!

Calling all budding artists!

Creativity Time is a 90 minute session in which young artists and a caregiver can get their hands on familiar and brand new art mediums. Sessions are held every Friday from 9:30-11am and are open to children of all ages. Cost is $15 per student and this includes all materials for both the student and caregiver. Each week we will focus on a different art medium and a project that the student can take home the same day. Projects will align with seasons of the year, holidays and other relevant topics. Miss Angie’s philosophy is to avoid a “set in stone” project and instead allow the artist to guide the end result – focus on the artistic process as opposed to the final product.

Seeking a Fiscal Sponsor

From Left to Right: Ruby, Angie, Pearl, Ivory and Jade

Good Morning Friends,

Miss Angie here…I just had a conversation with a lovely neighbor and the all-to-often question came up…”So what do you actually DO at Miss Angie’s Place? What’s it all about?”

After sharing with our neighbor the mission of Miss Angie’s Place and the current/future programming we do and will provide, the all-to-common comment came up…”That sounds like a non-profit!”

Hence the conundrum. What we DO here and what our MISSION statement focuses on are both very non-profit. However, after speaking with a few experts in the world of non-profits, a charitable entity is just not the right fit at this time.

Therefore, good friends of Miss Angie’s, I ask of you two things…
1) Please take a good look at our website; what we stand for, what we provide, what we hope to provide, and how we are making an impact in the Pine Island and surrounding communities.

2) Please send my way any ideas of charitable organizations you think may be a good fit as a Fiscal Sponsor for Miss Angie’s Place. For more information on fiscal sponsorship and what it’s all about, please visit this website:

https://www.councilofnonprofits.org/tools-resources/fiscal-sponsorship-nonprofits

Thanks so much for your time. Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Angie Severson
