About Us

Welcome!

Hi, I’m Miss Angie, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to Miss Angie’s Place. As the proud mother of four incredible daughters—Jade, Ruby, Ivory, and Pearl (our angel in heaven)—I decided to take a bold leap of faith after the COVID lockdown, leaving behind my career in education to pursue a long-held dream.

At the heart of Miss Angie’s Place is the vision to create a welcoming and inclusive community center that unites people of all ages and walks of life. Our space is dedicated to nurturing creativity, getting kids outdoors, promoting well-being, and fostering a stronger, more connected community through fun, engaging classes and events centered around four key pillars: Art, Nature, Community and Well-Being.

Bringing my extensive background as an educator and coach into play, my heartfelt goal is for Miss Angie’s Place to be more than a physical space — I want to create a safe haven where participants can have fun and feel a sense of belonging. I hope Miss Angie’s Place becomes a special and cherished space for you.

Pearl’s Story

Our sweet baby Pearl was born Dec 11, 2009 and passed away Jan 10, 2010. She was here for a short time but impacted many.

This is her story…

At Miss Angie’s Place, we embrace four pillars:

I believe we’re ALL artists and our classes offer a safe and encouraging space where you can discover or grow your artistic talents. We nurture self-expression, foster creativity, and celebrate your accomplishments as you unleash your inner artist.

My extensive outdoor experiences as a child had such a positive impact on me (thanks, Mom and Dad!). I strive to bring that same a sense of adventure and awe to our nature programs, letting children explore our area’s incredible parks, stomp in the mud, and have a blast while learning about and connecting with our amazing natural world.

Education is the heart of our existence.
Our classes and events create opportunities to connect, share, and grow together. We believe that a strong community is built on mutual support and respect. Together, we thrive!

Miss Angie’s Place offers a variety of well-being classes to promote holistic health and personal growth. Our classes let you explore various aspects of well-being, including physical fitness, mental health, and emotional balance.

Instructors

Angie Severson // Executive Director
Angie Severson is an artist, entrepreneur and philanthropist at heart. Her days are spent teaching art to children and adults, playing outside with her Naturescapes students and creating a mentorship program for Miss Angie’s Place After School Academy. Creating and sustaining supportive relationships is at the center of her personal and professional life, and her four daughters give her many opportunities to practice patience, compassion and empathy.

Heather Earlywine // Guest Yoga Instructor
Heather has been practicing yoga since her late twenties/early thirties and completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Program through The Yoga Practice with Amie Alapeteri in Yakima, WA in 2020.

Heidi Breid // Guest Youth Teacher
Heidi Breid is the Youth Services Librarian at Van Horn Public Library here in Pine Island. A Pine Island native, Ms. Heidi has a passion for connecting kids with books and providing literacy resources and opportunities for parents and readers alike. And because she’s basically a giant kid herself, her #1 goal is fun!

Ben Savitt // Guest Outdoor Educator
Ben has been teaching, coaching and adventure-guiding for most of the past 25 years. For the past 8 years he has been a full-time stay-at-home dad and running a two-kid adventure- and project-based homeschool. Before this, he taught social studies. He also taught project-based learning and outdoor education. His students were at-risk high school students in the Minneapolis Public School District. He taught there for 10 years.

Matthew Winkler // Guest Art Instructor
Matt Winkler is an artist, teacher, and dad. He works in drawing, painting, and collage and loves teaching a wide range of ages and experience levels, from Kindergarten to college. He lives and has a studio in rural Pine Island with his wife and kids (ages 6, 9, and 11).

Kandice Shaw // Guest Wellness Instructor
Kandice came to cacao as she moved through the process of caretaking her grandmother. She found that adding cacao to her day brought her a sense of grounding as she moved through the challenges and grief of the process. She has been offering cacao circles for several years and has recently returned from Peru. There she had the honor of connecting with master teachers and the spirit of cacao.
